As a team we were set a brief by the people from River Tees Rediscovered. The brief asked us to create a digital video in order to promote the River Tees Rediscovered project, the video would be used on the client's website with the aim of raising awareness to the various projects that happen all along the river. River Tees Rediscovered is a project that is about getting more people interested in taking part in different activities on the river, therefore the creation of this digital media product was intended to attract more volunteers to the different activities that take place along the river. We were set this brief on the 28th of September and promptly began brainstorming ideas based on what we knew about the various projects already.
The brief asked us to create a 2 - 4 minute video featuring a number of different projects that people can get involved in up and down the River Tees. To start with we were handed a print out of all the various projects that we could potentially feature in the video, at first we were under the impression that the client wanted us to feature all of the projects in the video. This would have been difficult because originally they were about 20 projects so we set up a meeting with a contact from River Tees Rediscovered named Jenny. We set up the meeting with Jenny as we wanted to know how they wanted the video formatting, if there were any specific fonts or branding icons they wanted us to feature and we also wanted to ask them about how we would include all of the projects in such a short space of time and if they could help us get in contact with the projects in order to arrange shooting days. In order to negotiate the brief we held the meeting on the 6th of October and found out that the majority of the projects would not even be running due to the time of the year. So Jenny gave us a new list of projects that we could actually feature in the video and the following week we began contacting the various projects and arranging shooting dates. As well as this Jenny sent us a copy of the River Tees Rediscovered logo for us to use in the video, however later we found that this was the old logo and so we had to re-incorporate the new one.
In my opinion the clients were not great at helping us set up the filming of these projects, some of the projects were as far away as Darlington and it was left up to us to organise transportation to these filming locations as well as this it would have been helpful if the original brief was more clear on the things that we eventually found out during our meeting with Jenny.
Our original plan was to spilt the team up into separate sub teams so that different groups could work on filming different projects all at once. However we decided to scrap this idea and instead just designated work to individuals to ensure that we were using all the resources we had and that the work load was shared equally. For example we would first decide who would film a specific project, then we would ask those people to start creating storyboards, mind maps ect. On an individual basis I had multiple roles such as completing paper work, shooting and being involved in post production.
For further evidence of my role in the pre production of this project please see our production file, in which our paperwork can be found.
The idea we had for the video was that each project would get a certain amount of time dedicated to it depending on how significant it was, we would display the project and tell the audience how they can get involved with it. The video would be 2 - 4 minutes in length and should aim to promote the RTR scheme.
On the 15th of October I was camera operator and director of our first shoot which me and Jordan attended. We shot a guided walk that started from Ingleby Golf Club in Ingleby Barwick. I had to get footage of the people on guided walk taking part in it, I tried to get some nice scenic shots in the forest but sometimes keeping up with the walkers whilst filming was hard. I would often run ahead in order to get shots from in-front of them. Filming for this went well and lasted around 2 hours, the weather was an issue and rain meant we had to pack up early but it was okay because we had all the shots we needed. Filming started on this day at 10am and the walk finished around 12.
On the 22nd of October I found myself filming another River Tees Rediscovered project, this time I was at the Water Pumping Station in Darlington. A team of Myself, Chloe Handley and Matty Dickens all went along to film there, we got lots of footage and I acted as director but also operated the camera for some scenes. We spent a long time at the station and started at 11am and finished at about 3pm giving us another 4 hours of work experience.
